All FoW armor is crap looking. Buy 15k for all of your characters then eat some pudding.

Even though I have male warrior fissure I agree it isnt great looking, I think my wife said it looks like a big teddy bear suit. I actually wear 15k Kurzick or 15k Glads most of the time now.
Oh and the reason for the quote. I actually see more monks in FoW armour now than I see any other profession. It seems to be the thing for all monks to wear.
Advise to the OP buy whichever set you like and will see alot in game. ie don't buy for a char that you aren't going to play.

I am actually contemplating switching to white ascalon armor, as a sort of protest against monks in black FoW with chaos gloves and asuran spectacles.

I despise monk FOW armor. It looks like clown pants.
There, I finally said it. Been hiding that opinion for over two years.
Female ranger FOW is nice. Not familiar with male ranger FOW though.
If you're going to get it for your warrior anyway, you might as well just get it now, check it out for a while, then see if you might want to get another set for a different character. If it makes you happy, that's all you need to be concerned about.

Frankly, with your post, you knocked several out of the race with what you wrote. My suggestion, I'd do whatever you'd show off more. I myself would go with the warrior, but that may be a personal opinion, due to myself getting FoW right at this moment.

Cheers for the replies everyone. Really, my choice was going to be for my Warrior before this, but the added confidence in the investment was worth it.
After eating copious amounts of pudding, I've decided the Warrior (my main) is the way to go for the first set. After that, I'll sit around praying Ritualists get revived so it will be worth buying a set for mine

Absolutely! It's the only character I would even consider obsidian armor for.
For the OP: which armor do you think looks the nicest?
(Oh wait, that's a girl point of view.)
Ok, let's give the girl's point of view. Of your options, the warrior probably looks the best. Dervish is not bad, but I'm planning on getting my male dervish the nightfall end of game armor. I think that looks the nicest. And he is a rather gorgeous looking guy.
My choices for your (all male) characters.
Warrior: Obsidian, as you want one of these. Dye it gold. Ok, that might not suit his hair and eye colour., but assuming it does, the gold looks pretty good. Bronze could be striking if you could manage it.
Dervish: Primeval
Ranger: This one is hard and a reason why I deleted the male PvE ranger at level 6. Erm, dwarven or drakescale elite.
Monk:Norn
Elementalist: Vabbian
Ritualist: Ancient
I've gone for the elites as that seems to be your vibe. If I had kept my male ritualist, I would have dressed him in plain ordinary Luxon. Fab.

I suggest you get Obsidian armor for the class you play and enjoy the most.

Once you've bought your War FoW you'll show us right? Dyed white if possible .

Damn straight I will
45 ectos and 70 shards from farming in reserve, and I'll be power-trading off a heap of stuff to afford the rest of the set as soon as I can.
Honestly, might be another month before it happens but by hell I'll try.

Personally I hate FoW war armor, but (as I said) it's a person preference. My opinion is if you don't "love" the look, don't get it. Why waste money one something you probably won't be happy wearing?
I have very few FoW armors that I like (all female): Mes, Ranger, and Dervish. I thought about monk at one time, but there are sooooooooooo many people that have it that I'm not going to bother.
My suggestion is this: don't buy the armor because it's expensive, because everyone else has it, or just because it's "elite armor." Buy it because you like it and you think your character would look good in it.
You've stated that you aren't overly fond of the war armor, kind of 'meh' about it, but you plan on getting it anyway. Personally for that reason I wouldn't get it, there are other armors that look better and would look just as nice in HoM.
In the end, the decision is completely yours to make, even after we've all had our imput. So just go with the one you like the look of best.

Uhm.. The character I play the most is my elementalist.. but I did not get her fow armor.. Why? It's ugly. (imho.) so yeah.. You should get fow armor to a character that you either play the most and think fow is rather nice.. (ok me being a girl might have something to do with an outfit being ugly and not wanting it XD) but if you think fow armor for one character is nicer than the others and wouldn't mind getting it.. go for it..
I picked male ele.. because it's one of the nicer armors for a male ele.. I also like male derv as well.

So you thought about monk armour because you liked its looks, your character would look good in it, but then you let others decide it for you because it seems too common.
oh ok - great advice then

I VOTED PUDDING .. SERIOUSLY ;;
.. I think you should go for the dervish armor but make him earn it , put him on a drokz run build and do some runs and get him a piece .. not because its your main char but because it looks the best of all obsidian armors x
